Data Science, B.A., B.S.

Data science is an interdisciplinary field that combines mathematics, statistics, computer science, and domain expertise to collect, analyze, and interpret data, helping organizations make informed decisions and solve complex problems. Opportunities in data science extend across academic disciplines—including healthcare, engineering, business, environmental science, social sciences, public health, finance, agriculture, and sports analytics—where data is used to drive research, innovation, and evidence-based decision-making. Graduates with a background in data science can pursue careers as data scientists, data analysts, machine learning engineers, business intelligence analysts, data engineers, artificial intelligence specialists, quantitative analysts, research analysts, bioinformaticians, and analytics consultants in virtually every industry.

This section showcases URI undergraduates career success outcomes up to 6 months following degree completion. CCEE supports each Degree Granting College with administering the First Destination Survey (FDS) for undergraduate degree recipients (including Pharmacy Doctoral degree recipients). Results are based on knowledge data that includes direct graduate survey responses, as well as additional sourced data from Degree Granting Colleges, LinkedIn, Handshake, or the URI Foundation & Alumni Engagement. Results include graduates from multiple graduation years and each Survey Year consists of graduates from December, May, and August. Percentages are based on the total number responses available, not all graduates. Results are suppressed if fewer than 10 data points exist for the selected criteria.

The Center for Career & Experiential Education (CCEE) supports each Degree Granting College with administering URI’s First Destination Survey (FDS) for undergraduate degree recipients (also includes Pharmacy Doctoral degree recipients). Survey results inform future advising and career preparation resources for current and future Rhody Rams.

Survey invitations are sent to graduates through Handshake and by Degree Granting College programs and staff. Results below are based on knowledge data and includes survey responses collected directly from graduates, as well as additional sourced data from Degree Granting College programs, LinkedIn, Handshake, or URI Foundation & Alumni Engagement.

Knowledge Rates (% of graduates for whom we have data):
2022 – 36% 2023 – 33% 2024 – 30% 2025 – 43%

Results include graduates from multiple graduation years (2022-2025) and can be filtered by Survey Year and Degree Granting College & Major. Each Survey Year consists of graduates from December, May, and August. For example, the 2025 survey results include December 2024, May 2025, and August 2025 graduates.

Success Rates:

Career Outcomes

Utilizing Handshake and the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the First Destination Survey (FDS) collects post-graduation activities within 6 months after graduation for undergraduate degree recipients. Career Outcomes include employment, continuing education, military, and volunteer service programs.
