Pre-Health Career Pathways primarily supports students pursuing pre-medical, pre-dental, and pre-physician assistant (PA) tracks, as these career paths often involve particularly rigorous and lengthy application and preparation processes.

We also guide all students in exploring other health professions that require entry into health professional schools or programs—like optometry, podiatry, occupational therapy and beyond.

We strongly encourage all pre-health students to consider the full spectrum of rewarding careers in healthcare.

In addition to exploring the information on our website here about the various healthcare professions, students can also use outside resources such as Explore Health Careers to find more information.

The best way to explore a career in health is to experience what the work is like for yourself.

We suggest starting by networking,  joining relevant student clubs and organizations, volunteering in community or healthcare settings, seeking out shadowing opportunities, getting involved in research and direct patient care experiences.

Professional schools seek applicants that have demonstrated their commitment to learning about their prospective profession and are able to articulate their passion, preparation and competencies.

Once students have decided that pre-health is the path they want to pursue, we encourage you to explore the paths below. Each career will include prerequisites students should plan on completing.

Anesthesiologist Assistant
