CSV Community Project Based Learning

CSV 302, Section 5000: Social Impact in Health & Health Care

Instructor: Kristin Souza
This project-based course partners with community healthcare organizations, enabling students to complete hands-on projects in small teams to understand and address a community need. See the flyer below for more information on the projects and partnering organizations.

CSV 303, Section 5000: Pre-Health Service in the Community

Instructor: Ashley Foley
This course is designed for students that are pursuing a pre-health professional career (Pre-Health). The course combines supervised, in-person direct patient care/volunteer role at the Rhode Island Free Clinic with a weekly asynchronous online seminar. Students gain hands-on clinical experience in roles such as medical assistant, medical scribe, or patient and volunteer services while serving underserved populations in Providence, RI. Through guided professional development modules focused on AAMC Core Competencies and reflection, students will build workplace readiness skills. Additionally, the course will explore the social determinants of health, and students will develop a professional portfolio that supports future applications to medical and other health professional programs.

ITR 300 Career & Professional Development

ITR 300, Section 5000: Career Planning: Strategy & Coaching

Instructor: Lisa Kuosmanen
This course will help students develop their resumes and career skills, identify jobs and internships related to their majors, learn how to effectively apply and interview, and benefit from one-on-one coaching that’s customized based on their unique needs (including a virtual mock interview).

ITR 300, Section 5001: Career Planning Concepts & Skills

Students in this course will build their professional brand utilizing the CliftonStrengths assessment. Deliverables include a career pathway plan, networking action plan, resume, cover letter, mock interview, and one-on-one coaching sessions.

Internship for Credit

ITR 302/304: Internship Field Experience & Seminar

An internship is an amazing opportunity to gain relevant experience, apply theory to practice in the field, and make valuable networking connections. Internships may be anywhere in the US, virtual or in-person, paid or unpaid. Students will enroll in ITR 302 (internship field experience) for 3-12 credits and ITR 304 (required asynchronous online professional development seminar) for 3 credits.

Students interested in the ITR Internship Program, should email their Career Education Specialist to begin the enrollment process. Students should also contact their CES with questions or for internship search assistance. The internship must be secured and approved before registration.

MGT 493, Section 5000: Internship in Business (all Business Majors)

Approved, supervised work experience with participation in management and problem solving related to the student’s major field of study. College of Business internship for 3 or 6 credit hours. Admission into an internship program and permission of the instructor. Limited to 6 credit hours. S/U only.

ITR 400 & CSV 400: Zero Credit Field Experience

The use of these course codes documents off-campus field experience, internship, or community based experiences for those students who will not use the experience for academic credit (zero credit). Enrollment will be by permission number only and limited to students who have their experience vetted through the Center for Career & Experiential Education. The vetting process (and subsequent enrollment) will include an Internship Description Form submitted by the student and reviewed by the instructor.

Enrollment in this course facilitates the student being able to show, on their transcript, the completion of an internship or community field experience outside of academic requirements and electives.

This course will not be taken for credit.
Students will not receive a grade.
As a non-credit course, it will not count toward a student’s degree program.
